Battle.net lagging - how to react and how to fix + general performance tweaks

Network spikes can easily become a pain in the ass, especially if playing hardcore. Because of that lagging issue, many heroes play at lower MP, just to stay safe.

But remember: even if when the lag is on, and the game freezes for you, you can still issue commands! - such as using potions, using defensive skill (Diamond Skin, Spirit Walk...) and even attacking. this moves will apply right away after you reconnect and might very well save your life.

There are also some ways to try to prevent lagging at all. Considering your ISP provider is fine, the problem will probably be at the Battle.net servers side. What you can is to monitor the traffic and also create a ping bridge.

At this page, you can learn how to create a PathPing log, which 1) refreshes b.net connecting every single second, 2) logs the connecting attemps, so you know the stability rate. Obviously, the connecting is betetr outside the rush hours, i.e. morning, a.m. and late night.
/ hint: replace the xxx.xxx.xxx with your Diablo gateway IP, which is listed below

Second thing you might try is running your own infinite ping command.
Press WinKey+R, type CMD and press Enter
after the console is started, type in
ping -t xxx.xxx.xxx
again, xxx.xxx.xxx  stand for your gateway IP

list of IPs:

REGIONIP ADDRESS
The Americas12.129.209.68
Europe213.155.155.233
Korea and Taiwan182.162.134.1
cmd setup example

That should fix your network issues (but please not: battle simply IS lagging and going thru low performance issues itselves on rush hours, mostly in evening, and there no helping that).

UPDATE:
Last week, another wayaround apeared - filtering out laggy Battle.net IPs providers, you can achieve green pings all the time. All you need to do is to determine, whether or not you are connected to the problematic adress range. If yes, you simply reconnect and hope for better luck (theres about 33% of green servers in rush hours).

The easiest way to find out to which ip you are assigned to at the moment is using Windows Resource monitor (via Task Manager) and then comparing it with a this Spreedsheet.

In case of doubts that lagging might be caused by your own hardware (instead of net connection), there two methods to try out as well - simple pc performance tweaks.

Having an high-end extra sound card? Try reducing the number of [Sound Channels] in Options to 32. Helps wonders. This also works for Starcraft II and some other games.

Clear your Battle.net cache - helps even with high-end hardware
(should be done after every patch) [not that there has been any past half a year]

Limit background FPS and vertical sync (at cheaper computers)
